The Battle Continues
WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?
As opposing sides like those in movies, there exist an underlying battle between homeschooling and public schooling. More and more I see each side increasing their defense for their education choice. Each side attempting to cast doubt on the other, competing for some kind of glory of producing a brighter child.
DROP YOUR WEAPONS
My response to this is why?
Why is that either side feels they must defend what they believe to be best for their family?
Why should we hang onto this mentality that only one method is supreme.
It would be absurd for me to say I know what is a better method for you and your family.
I don't know the situation you are in, the time available you have, or what your children's needs are. Even if I did, I still wouldn't be fit to make that decision. You know your children best and desire what is best for them.
What is a right fit for me and my family at this point in time, may not be the right fit for you and your family. Rather than defend my decision to others, or try and influence them that our way is "best", why are we not more supportive and encouraging of the choices having to be made on either side?
Raising children is a blessing, but one that comes with many challenges. Some days you're met with self-doubt, other days maybe guilt or anxiety wondering if you're doing your job as a parent well. Parents need to encourage one another, support each others' decisions, whether we ultimately agree with them or not. Teachers of all types and placement need to be supported and encouraged.
Why?
Because I want for every child to be happy and successful regardless of where they are being educated. Happy and well adjusted children make for everyone's benefit.
What does it benefit discouraging, judging, or causing doubt in another?
I want to be known as a friend and person who is helpful, reassuring, and uplifting.
As a homeschooling family, the last thing I want to reflect is that we are superior or that our education choice is better- it's just different. Differences are what make the world a better place. None of us need to follow suit to each other, we are each given a separate race to run.
I can say with confidence that homeschooling is the race we are meant to be running now, but never do I want to be so prideful as to think that everyone is meant to do the same.
And in my experience things can change in an instant, we are all just a phone call away from needing to make a difficult decision. So humbly I continue the choice I'm grateful to get to make for my children's education, and happily encourage others in theirs.
